The Storytellers

United States

Bio

Jerry discovered photography at the age of ten when his family moved to Hawaii and he was given a medium format (21/4x21/4 TLR) camera, thus becoming the family photographer! His artistic growth really started in northern california, late in high school, when he discovered the national parks--Yosemite in particular--and he started doing his own B&W printing.

By 1975 he was the youngest member of the Light and Shadow camera club--a PSA affiliate--and started winning awards in slide and print competitions.
Fast forward ten years with a great variety of photography under his belt including fine-art nature, race cars and grand prix motorcycles, drag racing, vintage airplanes to skateboarders, hang-gliders to martial-artists, aerial photography from airplanes and helicopters; Jerry is now very happily married to Kathi, has two kids, and has launched his professional career in photography.

Jerry joined PPSCV, Professional Photographers of Santa Clara Valley, his area's PPA affiliate and started professional print competition and annual studies with many great names in photography through West Coast Schools at the Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara.

By 1994 he was PPCSV's Photographer of the Year.

Jerry was elected as President of PPSCV in 2000 and 2001. He also became PPSCV's Photographer of the Year again in 2002.

All the while entering PPA International print competitions and with his images published in three PPA Loan Collection books, Jerry earned his Masters Degree from PPA in 2002.

He was Capri Albums' Portrait Photographer of the Year in 2003, when he won their national competition, and their grand prize of a vacation in Italy. This, he and Kathi decided to take the following year on their 20th wedding anniversary! The images he created from this incredible trip to Rome, Capri, and Pompeii, started their fine-art travel photography line.

Jerry and Kathi also started speaking at other PPA affiliates and when they spoke at a southern California association in 2003 about how they made the transition from film to digital and showed the results, they were approached by the FujiFilm western region representative. Soon thereafter they were asked to join the Fuji Talent Team.

Big changes in 2009 brought a relocation to Idaho and the reinvention and renaming of their business to the Storytellers, reflecting the way photography has changed.

In addition, Jerry and Kathi have launched their teaching business called Light at the Edge-- www.lightattheedge.com ---offering one-on-one coaching and small group classes to emerging professional photographers or for working pros. looking to branch out into a new specialty or needing to fill gaps in their knowledge.
